Carrot and Broccoli Puree

I’ve been on a broccoli kick lately, roasted being the preference (yum!), and carrots are always in our fridge. It got me thinking, a broccoli-carrot combo would be delish for your sprout, in that, the sweetness of the carrots make them a great combination food when introducing new vegetables to your baby. The nice thing about carrots and broccoli, is you can pretty much find both year round. If you are shopping local farms, however, carrots are typically best in the Summer months, and broccoli is a Fall vegetable. That being said, there is NOTHING wrong with getting your fruits & veggies in the frozen food section. They’re sometimes actually more fresh that way, especially if you’re buying out of season. If able, buy organic. Less pesticides is always a good thing, especially when it comes to your child. If organic is not an option, don’t fret. You’re still making your child’s food, which is better than store bought, any day :). So here you go, friends, an easy combination recipe your child will (hopefully) enjoy. A wonderful source of vitamins, C, K & A.

This is a great starter recipe, 5-8 months, and when introducing new vegetables and combo recipes.

  • 1 cup fresh broccoli, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh carrots, chopped

Clean broccoli and carrot (unless from frozen food aisle). Chop one cup of each and steam for 8-10 minutes. Using a food processor or blender, blend to desired consistency and serve.

Recipe Yields: Approx. 6-8 Servings

Store the remaining puree in the freezer to use at  later date.

Storage Time: 2-3 months in the freezer
